Another excellent article.

I’ve been disappointed to read that two people I like and respect- not public figures- were quick to post on Instagram that “trans women are women” - that was a straight man- and a lesbian posted that she stood by her trans women colleagues. The Supreme Court judgment does take quite a bit of concentration and tbh I couldn’t follow it all. But paragraph 2 is important and the summary at the end is helpful. There does seem quite a misunderstanding about what the judgment was actually deciding and what it was not addressing. I’m not now able to vote Green, though I think I became a life member about 25 years ago. At that time I never dreamed that sex and gender would be so politicised or have anything to do with ecology and the environment…

Only one thing is clear to me - I was utterly naive to think we could sort this out in a few years. A few decades more like.

I don't want to jinx it so I am not going to make a prediction, Sarah.

But I did say FWS would win and I got that one right ( I was at the hearing) 😄

I've been tracking reactions to the judgment on Reddit and it's concerning. There are posts explaining why the ruling is transphobic that have thousands of upvotes. One post about a pro-trans rights protest in Edinburgh has 26,000 upvotes. Comments that support the ruling are being downvoted or deleted by mods.

Reddit is a bubble, yes, but it's a bubble with clout. It's populated by young professionals, academics, techies and public sector types -- precisely the people working their way through our institutions as well as those influencing policy in the corporate world.

The meaning of the ruling is being distorted and misrepresented and very few people seem to have any interest in reflecting on whether their assumptions about "terfs" might be wrong.

It's very easy to manipulate upvotes and to use bots on social media, that's an old trick.

Like Sarah says, the supreme court ruling is but one battle won in the war against this madness.

I'm aware there can be manipulation. But if you spend anytime on Reddit you will know the progressive hive mind there is unfortunately very real. It's worrying when you think about the way these ideologies have spread across our institutions and that there are many within them who are dead set on defending them.

The fight for sex-based rights is certainly a marathon and not a sprint.

I am not at all surprised that a parent lied about their child accessing gender drugs. The entire premise of transgenderism is deception, including self-deception.

Sadly I agree.

The case (this instance as well as previously) just screams "abusive man using child to punish ex-partner (female).

I was very struck by the "be protective rather than simply supportive" remark.

Another glimmer of light at the end of this very long and twisty multi branched tunnel system.

Thanks, Sarah, for pointing out that battles continue elsewhere despite the wonderful Supreme Court judgment.

Will cross post in due course.

Cross posted

This includes suggestions about enforcement of the judgment so any comments on that would be gratefully

Groks summary looks pretty good! But of course enforcement is only as good as the people willing to do the enforcement. Note LawFare ahead I reckon.

The children were promised sweeties; not just today but sweeties for evermore and any time they wanted them. Now the he big Daddies and Mummies of the court have said they can't have the sweeties, should never have been given the sweeties and there will be no more sweeties. So the children, not unnaturally, are having massive tantrums and weeing themselves.

It looks as if it will take more and more detransitioners willing to make public what fools they were as kids to strike the fear of lawsuits into doctors to put an end to this.

Like an highly contageous thing, this mental afliction will take a while to reduce to manageable levels. At least this last week is some sort of step forward, in this country at least. And as for the Green Party, well, they are incurable.

If the Guardian lied, she should be struck off. But SWE is unlikely to act - I doubt they have learnt from their Meade experience.

? The guardian didn’t lie; the guardian was lied to.
